Bellevue is a city unto itself, with its own school district. However, it’s been assimilated into the Seattle scene as a suburb of the city. Bellevue was founded in 1869, and stayed mostly rural until the Lake Washington Floating Bridge was built in 1940. The 2000 census shows more than 112,000 residents of Bellevue.

Bellevue has been rated one of the 25 safest cities in America. Family median income in 2006 was more than $89,000, with a per capita income of almost $37,000. With more than 45,000 households and a wide spread of ages, Bellevue is home to singles, small families and retirees.

Bellevue has its share of culture and activities in an area known for them. The Bellevue Arts & Crafts Fair, held annually since 1947, is quite popular. Other cultural attractions include the Bellevue Arts Museum, Rosalie Whyel Museum of Doll Art, KidsQuest Children’s Museum, and the biennial Bellevue Sculpture Exhibition.

Homes in Bellevue average from the $400,000’s to the $700,000’s, with those near the lake commanding significantly higher prices. There are condominiums, and Bellevue has a large percentage of single family homes. Near Lake Washington, a two bedroom condominiums are in the $500,000 ranges.
