About West Seattle

The entire area west of the Duwamish River comprises the West Seattle area. An independent town in 1902, it became part of Seattle in 1907. The highest point in Seattle at 520 feet, the Gatewood neighborhood, is located in the West Seattle area. The Denny Party is said to have landed at Alki Point in West Seattle to begin the settlement of the Seattle area.

Attractions are many in West Seattle. Along Elliot Bay and Puget Sound, the saltwater beach parks are quite popular. These include Alki Beach and Lincoln Park. Other neighborhoods include North Admiral, Arbor Heights, Seaview and Delridge. The views of Olympic Mountains and the Cascade Range are draws for the area.

“The Junction” area is the center of a lively business district. Parks in the area include Highland Park, Westcrest Park and Seahurst Park. The West Seattle Golf Course is in the northern portion of West Seattle. The Southwest Seattle Historical Museum is located near Alki Point at the north end of the West Seattle Area.

Homes in the area are single family and condominiums, some highrise. Prices can be as low as $150,000 for a one bedroom condominium, with homes near the water pricing between $1 million and $2 million. There are single family homes available in the $200,000 to $400,000 price ranges.

Commute

The West Seattle to downtown commute is about 7 mile shouldn't take more than 30 minutes even during rush hour.

Schools

School District: Seattle Public Schools

Schools: West Seattle is a large area, with the Seattle School District dividing it into north and south areas. Public schools include Madison Middle School, Denny Middle School, Roxhill Elementary School, Alki Elementary School, Lafayette Elementary School, Highland Park Elementary School, West Seattle High School and Chief Sealth High School.
