About Beacon Hill

Though most residents just call it Beacon Hill, the area is long and narrow from north to south. The local government divides it into North Beacon Hill, Mid-Beacon Hill, Holly Park and South Beacon Hill. Settled in the 1850’s, Beacon Hill has been home to successive waves of immigrants.

Though Beacon Hill is home to the world headquarters of Amazon.com, its streets are also lined with Chinese, Vietnamese and Filipino businesses and shops. North Beacon Hill and South Beacon Hill each have active neighborhood associations. There are several structures in the area listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The 2000 Census showed a population of 22,300 in Beacon Hill with a racially diverse mix. Public amenities include the new Beacon Hill Branch of the Seattle Public Library, Dr. Jose Rizal Park and Jefferson Park. Beacon Hill will be part of the Sound Transit Light Rail System, with a station to open in 2009.

North Beacon Hill features single family homes in the $300,000’s to $500,000’s, while South Beacon Hill’s homes cover a range of pricing from the high $300,000’s to over $600,000. However, certain areas can have older and smaller homes reaching prices as low as under $100,000.

The Beacon Hill to Downtown commute is 3 miles and takes around 12 minutes.

Schools: Due to the large area with a long north-south axis, there are a great many public schools of all grades in the Beacon Hill area. Private schools in the area include:
